Overview

A Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) is a type of open work permit that allows the spouse or common-law partner of a work permit or study permit holder to work in Canada. SOWP doesn’t require the spouse to have any specific educational qualifications, linguistic ability, or work experience. This permit allows eligible spouses or partners to work for any employer without restrictions in Canada. The length of the open work permit will be the same as the permit of their spouse.

Enroll full-time in DLI

Work Permit Holders

Valid Work permit
Full-time employment in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3

Accompany the spouse to Canada:It allows the spouse or common-law partner to accompany their spouse to Canada during their stay there.
Pathway to Permanent Residence:Spouse open work permit holders will be eligible under the Canadian Experience Class after completing their one-year work experience in Canada.
